Tom is an experienced healthcare professional with over 20 years of combined expertise in clinical practice, leadership, and data analytics. He is a consultant surgeon, with a strong background in both the NHS and private sector, helping healthcare organizations improve care through digital health solutions and data-driven insights.
Dr Palser has worked as a Consultant Surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester, where he also took on the role of Associate Medical Director for Quality Assurance. During his time there, he developed a new system to bring together different data sources to give a clear picture of the quality of care being provided. He now works as a Senior Fellow at the busiest Major Trauma Centre in the UK, based in Nottingham, while continuing to balance his clinical duties with consultancy work.
With extensive experience in artificial intelligence and healthcare, particularly in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Tom led a major project for NHSX and NIHR to improve how patient complaints are managed using AI. He has also advised NHS England on the Digital Clinical Safety Strategy and provided guidance to government departments on data strategy and healthcare innovation.
He holds several qualifications from University of Oxford, including a Doctor of Medicine, BMBCh, and MA in Physiological Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and has authored more than 20 research papers and textbook chapters.
Today, Tom consults with many leading organizations, offering expertise in digital health, AI, and improving healthcare outcomes through better use of technology and data.
